I see what I see in the image and I write it. These are my thoughts]
Below the feet of Poseidon, in the darker regions of the ocean, existed another god of the sea. While the Greeks worshipped the stories of the upper deity, no man ever uttered, much less knew the name of the lower, Naenauqus. He had spent an eternity chained the very last 3 meters of the cold, dark depths of the waters. He was a prisoner at the ocean floor with only his Trident yielding father aware of his presence. When you fear to be outshined by he whom you begat, you see them as a threat, and threats must be removed and hidden.
From the moment of existence, Poseidon feared the beauty and heart of his newborn son. So, he cast upon him an eternal life sentence, binding him by the chains of the ocean, submerged in the hell of the deep, to be forgotten for all time. But Naenauqus had a power that could not be controlled. He could hear.
Naenauqus could hear every sound within the mighty ocean. He could hear the waves made by the smallest of sea life as they broke through the water's surface, halfway around the world. He could hear a single raindrop fall from the sky before it struck the seas above. He could also hear the hearts of man. He knew when they approached their breaking point and the exact moment when they did. The power of the depths alerted him as they each set out to drown their woes, forcing their hearts and minds to the bottom of a bottle. Naenauqus was powerless to save any of them, despite knowing. But what he could do was receive their souls the moment they were stripped from them, by their own means. All souls lost, once the body gave up, found their way to the water's edge where they each sank to the deep, silently unnoticed, past the watchful eye of Poseidon. The jealous god was oblivious to the gift his son received, right before his very eyes.
Naenauqus welcomed each un-savable soul and changed them into gold which he wore about his person. The gold would then slowly deteriorate, break free, and seek the surface. When the sun called upon the waters, they would latch on and evaporate together to the heavens. And then the rains came. Shimmering droplets of liquid, gifted by the prisoner of the sea, fell upon the heads of others who feared and struggled with their own woes. These shiny little droplets of water penetrated the heads of those who were almost strong enough to survive their struggles and pushed them to the point where they could. Unbeknownst by them. Some could be saved by the transforming power of those who could not be. In this, Naenauqus found his purpose. He found pardon. If only in his mind. Naenauqus gave life to mankind, despite being stripped of his own. Naenauqus was greater than his father.
[The next time you feel the rain fall upon you, think about the golden droplets of change. It may be just what you need. Think about who may have been lost to give you your life back and thank them. And then thank the giver]
