[Words to Image. This image touched a nerve in me, so I wrote as I felt. I'm sure there are many who can relate. Enjoy.]

His wounds hissed as they forced out his mental life force, self-tranquility. Soot colored vapers snaked towards the sky, dancing in victory, as if he was broken, but this has happened many times before. He was not out. Ergo trembled as the blood trickled down scarred and dirty muscles. The pain was no more unbearable than the last, but each time it seemed to break his spirit more and more. But he was not out. He wondered why he allowed it.

"What's the point in standing?" he thought.

Was it worth it? Would it make a difference or just get worse? Each time he questioned his choices, he talked himself into passes. He always did. If he could take the brunt of the consequences, things wouldn't have to change. Life would go on, as always, and no one would be the wiser. He was used to the agony, for the most part. Moreso than the next Joe. Besides, peace stood a better chance as long as he accepted the fallout.

Their words cut into him like daggers, daily, ripping away at his dignity, what he still possessed, that is. He covered his face in shame. Shamed for the hollow shell of a man that he had become. Shamed for the attacks he endured without a fight. Shamed for the evil he enabled. His body bore war wounds from the many situations that ended by the hand. He was alone and his two were always the ones in defense. But nobody knew.

Today, today his hand was prepared to free himself. His determination was sharpened and he woke with a courage he had never known. Today was a day for change. Today, he fought back. Once he felt a courage, he embraced it. He gave it life. He gave it power. He gave it his all. And to his surprise, that was the one thing he needed to do, all along. He fought back. He was not out.

Ergo rose from his knees and never allowed them to touch the earth again. He found his saving grace, which was always within him. He simply had to believe he could use it. He had to try. He did and he succeeded.

Ergo was finally free of the constant degradation. Tranquility returned. He regained his sense of pride in who he was. Enough was enough and now he finally realized that everything he needed, he had.

Ergo found himself and the wounds healed. Freedom.
